Recently, Counseling In Schools’ Management Team spent a day volunteering with Housing Works, demonstrating the organization’s commitment to service, community partnership, and collaboration beyond its school-based programs.
The team supported Housing Works’ online bookstore operations by unpacking, scanning, organizing, and auditing book inventory. Through its network of bookstores and thrift shops, Housing Works provides community members with access to affordable books, clothing, and essential resources while promoting literacy, learning, and connection—values that closely align with CIS’s mission.
The volunteer experience offered an opportunity for CIS leaders to step away from their daily responsibilities and work side by side in service to the broader community. Beyond supporting an important partner organization, the day strengthened relationships among team members and reinforced the power of collective action.
Filled with collaboration, laughter, teamwork, and purpose, the experience served as a reminder that meaningful impact extends beyond program sites. By investing in community partnerships and supporting organizations with shared values, CIS continues to deepen its connection to the communities it serves and expand its understanding of the resources available to students and families.
CIS extends its gratitude to Housing Works and Frank Irizarry for welcoming the team and for their ongoing commitment to strengthening communities across New York City. The organization looks forward to future opportunities to partner, serve, and make a difference together.
