This school year, Ms. Laurel and Ms. Angelique, Community Coordinator, co-facilitated PS 124’s first season of Girls on the Run (GOTR). GOTR is an evidence-based program that empowers girls by building confidence, fostering kindness, and strengthening decision-making skills. The Fall season’s theme, “Bold Hearts,” guided weekly afterschool meetings, where 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade girls explored topics such as self-esteem, empathy, friendship conflicts, and positive self-talk. The season concluded with a celebratory 5K event on Randall’s Island on Sunday, December 7th, where families joined in the fun to support the participants’ achievements.
