The Counseling In Schools community came together for District 15’s Day of Service, and our students demonstrated an inspiring commitment to giving back to their community. As part of the initiative, students volunteered with City Harvest, working side by side to help address food insecurity across New York City.

During the volunteer experience, students collaborated as a team to pack an incredible 625 bags of potatoes that would be distributed to families in need throughout the city. Through their hard work, organization, and teamwork, students saw firsthand how even a few hours of service can have a meaningful impact on the lives of others. The experience not only helped support community members facing food insecurity, but also gave students a deeper understanding of the importance of compassion, civic engagement, and collective responsibility.

For many students, the day was a powerful reminder that young people have the ability to create real change in their communities. By participating in hands-on service work, students strengthened communication and leadership skills while building stronger connections with one another around a shared purpose. The experience encouraged empathy and reinforced the idea that supporting others is an important part of building healthy, thriving communities.

Moments like these reflect the core values of Counseling In Schools—service, connection, collaboration, and youth empowerment. Whether inside the classroom or out in the community, our students continue to demonstrate that they are thoughtful leaders who are eager to make a positive difference in the world around them.
