Counseling In Schools recently welcomed newly appointed Program Directors and Assistant Program Directors for a professional development and staff training session designed to support them as they step into their new leadership roles. Facilitated by Rebekah Severe and Theodore Phillips, the session provided new leaders with an opportunity to strengthen their leadership skills, deepen their understanding of Counseling In Schools’ programs and practices, and prepare for the important work of supporting students, families, and school communities.
Throughout the training, participants explored the responsibilities and opportunities that come with leading CIS programs in school settings. The session emphasized the importance of responsive, student-centered programming and equipped leaders with practical knowledge they can bring back to their schools. By strengthening their understanding of CIS’s approach, new Program Directors and Assistant Program Directors are better prepared to ensure that services remain aligned with the needs of each school community.
The training also provided an important opportunity for new leaders to connect with colleagues who are beginning similar journeys. Through shared learning, discussion, and collaboration, participants were able to build relationships and create a foundation for continued peer support. These connections are an important part of developing a strong leadership community across CIS.
