Counseling In Schools staff partnered with middle schoolers to create a mural celebrating how music, art, and drama shape their lives while revealing what they wish adults understood about their experiences.
Eighth graders met twice weekly during lunch to explore personal themes, discussing the contrast between inner and outer worlds—emotions, masks worn, and growth through creativity. These conversations birthed a garden metaphor where challenges, emotions, and resilience bloom together.
Students intentionally selected colors, symbols, and imagery—including “worry worms” and visual dialogue representations—expressing concerns and hopes beneath the surface. Sixth and seventh graders contributed during open studio sessions, identifying emotions that “eat at them” and creating a collective worry list woven throughout the design.
Together, they crafted a powerful visual tapestry of the middle school journey
