During the holiday season, students and families at JHS 223 came together to spread kindness, compassion, and support through two meaningful community service initiatives that reflected the school’s strong spirit of giving.

As part of a Holiday Card Making event, students created personalized cards filled with thoughtful messages, words of encouragement, and warm holiday wishes for the clients of God’s Love We Deliver. Through creativity and heartfelt expression, students helped bring comfort and joy to individuals facing illness and other life challenges during the holiday season. The activity also encouraged students to reflect on the impact small acts of kindness can have on others and reinforced the importance of empathy, compassion, and community connection.

At the same time, the school organized a successful Crazy Socks Drive in partnership with Koenig Childhood Cancer Foundation, Inc. to support children battling cancer. Families generously donated colorful and fun socks to help brighten the holidays for young patients and their families. The initiative received an especially meaningful boost from John Ricottone, President of the District 20 Community Education Council, who contributed 200 pairs of socks after learning about the drive through Principal Andrew Frank.

With the collected donations, students assembled gift bags containing both the donated socks and their handmade holiday cards, creating care packages designed to bring comfort, warmth, and smiles to children in need. Through these efforts, students not only supported important community organizations but also experienced firsthand the power of service, generosity, and collective action.

These initiatives highlighted the caring culture at JHS 223 and demonstrated how students, families, educators, and community partners can work together to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others during the holiday season and beyond.
